Works by Kara Walker

 Works by Kara Walker

Walker uses the 18th and 19th century art of silouetting to show blacks, whites , men and women particpating in scenes of degradation, sex and violence. These pictures are statirical comments on race, slavery, lust and domination. Some of the pictures remind me of plantation scenes.

What do you think of her work?

Modern Painers, an International art publication, put her on their cover page and did a featured article about her artwork.

They actually remind me very much of what you could find on Greek amphoras from the Hellenistic age. You can find examples here: http://www.hellenic-art.com/pottery/bla2.htm

I'm not much into degradation, sex and violent art but some of the pictures you have above seem fine.
I wish the talented (and this artist is talented) would put their energy into more positive things.....between races and people. We already know what's wrong with the world, unless we live in a cave, with so much garbage on TV and the Internet, so why not publicize what's right with it in art and in all things. Just my opinion, of course.
