Do We Need Bird Flu Shots Like Europe Does?

Do We Need Bird Flu Shots?

The media tells us lately that Europe is using Brid flu shots and so are parts of Asia but not Amercia...

Why not? The birds who spread the virus do so because they are migratory birds who have picked us the virus and passed it along. We do have migratory birds here in large numbers every year so why don't we all need the shot?

I searched Google for the answer.

CBS reports that Timothy Germann of Los Alamos Labs said that the flu strains change all of the time and therefore the shot that is administered must be adjusted to the changes.

The article reported that it would take 10 million doses to adequately cover the spreading of the disease.

So what do you think? Do you think we should administer that many doses?

Nat wanted me to add this....
I have never gotten a flu shot but once and got really sick when I did, and from what I have heard through different science fields, is that healthy people don't need it for our immune systems if handled right can deal with those sorts of things...however since many americans eat poor diets, they would have to learn to eat better to keep themselves from getting sick.

I don't know anyone over here in the UK who has had the bird flu shot. I think the media alwways try to make things much sound much worse than they are. I've only once had a flu shot and that was the year I got really bad flu!! There s=are so many strains of it, if everyone had a shot the strain would just mutate to give us a new strain. I say that we should be prepared to administer them, but not go crazy and do so until we need to pass them out.

I think it's too soon to tell. I don't think it's as serious as they say it is......YET.

Like us most viruses have a strong survival instinct. Most vaccines use very weak strains of the virus or bacteria that cause the disease so if we all got a shot the strain would be able to mutate and make itself resistant to the vaccine. This is how the common cold works, so many different strains make it impossible to control it. It's also why we still often get flu when we've had a flu shot, it's a different strain of it.
