Jamie Lee Curtis's New Book:"What is the Human Race?" seems Marvelous

Jamie Lee Curtis was interviewed about what her new book was about for children on CBS, and I was quite impressed with her repsonses. She talked about how rushed and stressed children are today! She said that to children life is a giant race! Curtis is a motherand she places a lot of importance on parenting and giving shildren time adn attention so that parents will nurture theri children's self esteem.

She said that  parents need to explain to their kids that they do not have to win all of the time; just try to do their best!

I like her honesty, her love for children and her choice of illustrations.

Tell us what you think of Curtis's book. What other children's books do you enjoy?

I haven't read her book but perhaps since I want children soon I should buy it. I liked what she stated and I agree with her. I feel children are stressed to grow up too fast and miss out on the "childhood" they really need to experience. I also think TV contributes much to this problem and don't plan to allow my children to watch anything other than programs I monitor.

I've always liked her, so I'd probably agree with her beliefs but I haven't read it so can't really say. I do think kids have too much on their shoulders these days to really be kids. They grow up too fast.

This is not J.L.'s first book. SHe does have a way with her insight on kids. Yes, kids are rushed to every thing today. There is no "down" time and there is no alone creation time. When was the last time the neighborhood kids just "when out to play'? It doesn't happen anymore. Everything is scheduled. My favorit "Golden Book" was called MISTER BEAR SQUASH YOU ALL FLAT. Hah, try to find that one now a days. My Regards, Bill.

JLC is one of my favorite actresses... she is witty, warm, and beautiful. I haven't read or heard of this book, but it sounds like a good read. I think kids are pushed to do so much, but that is more likely happening in the affluent and middle class range of income. The lower middle class and the working middle class probably don't have time nor money to get their kids involved in so many activities. I know parents who have their kids signed up for gym class, cheerleading classes, all the sports teams around. Then there's scouts, church youth groups, and choirs. There are so many things that kids can get into when they start school, or even before.

My own son wanted to do it all, but we could see us fast losing our time with him in exchange for team sports (basketball, bowling, scouts, baseball). That meant for us lots of sitting around and watching. And rushing to get homework done, going to bed moody and irritable, being tired all the time. We told him to give up basketball or baseball (they overlapped) or bowling (it's year round), and he made the choice. Gave up basketball so he could play baseball. Turned out to be the best choice, as he became a very good baseball player, and a decent bowler.

I do think the more affluent and higher working class families have more options, and want their kids to be well rounded by the time they graduate from high school. The lower middle class families are really struggling to keep up with their kids' "needs." Having a kid in school, even a public school, can be very expensive if you buy everything the kid says he or she "needs." bea

Hey Nat ....  I haven't seen her latest book, but ever since she did that interview in a women's magazine a while back where she showed what her figure really looks like when the photos aren't 'doctored up' , I am a fan!  She has a knack for trying to make people ... little people included ... feel good about themselves.  Plus, her husband makes the funniest movies imaginable.  Good for her !   Tina
