Are Respect, Kindness and Good Manners Important to You?

Google did the pictures

Are Respect, Kindness and Good Manners Important to you?If so, how can we keep these things alive in society today?

(Introduction: After writing that last blog (thank you John Scalzi for the interesting assignment!)

I got some very interesting and telling responses.

People have some issues built up around being treated poorly by other people here, in traffic, at schools,in stores and the office, or even at home.

Respect and self esteem are so important to the well being of our society and so important to our self esteem. Please talk about your thoughts and feelings around this issue.TY

Politeness is all too often lost in this "busy" society. Please and thank you are still said (usually) and most people think that's enough but it isn't.
Here's a place (for starters) that I believe that good manners could actually make a change in people's moods and benefit everyone:

The workplace......Help somebody out when you're done with your own work. Say thank you to the people who clean your office or others who make your life easier at work. Hold a door for the next person walking through it. Answer the phone with genuine interest in the other person on the line. DON'T GOSSIP about fellow employees. Their jobs could be on the line and at the very least, their dignity. That's a good start. Changes in behavior are contagious. Give posiitive changes a try.

Respect, Kindness, and good manners are traits that should be taught at home by parents. These things need to be handed down from generation to generation. The folks of the 40 - 50 era came out of the war wanting their kids to have the best so, they bought them everything they could afford. In the 60s these kids were spoiled rotten and now their kids and grand kids are being raised without family values. We need to go back to old family values and start all over. Regards, Bill.

In our house, we try to live by the golden rule- Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.  It's hard to have a young child understand this when you tell them, but they begin to understand when you treat them and others respectfully, and showing good, "old fashioned" manners.  You know, like saying thank you, writing thank you notes, please, giving up your seat to others, and opening doors for others.  Hopefully my husband and  show enough that our child will see it and take after us.  Thanks Natalie- Carolyn
