What Do you Think of Same Sex Charter Schools?

There is a growing consensus in public schools that same sex schools might be a fairer, more rigorous way for middle school and upper school students to learn.
Some states allow for this type of charter school.
Do you think it is effective?

Well since I really went to same sex schools, I have this advise. It is great for the elementary and junior highs, for girls in particular can really advance much better school wise without boys around, and I am sure boys do to without the distraction of girls. We however did sometimes meet up with them at lunch and P.E. But the same sex schools I went to combined when they went to high school, and I think that is a good idea that way teenagers get social skills and get a chance to meet potential dates and all that fun teenage stuff.

I think they need to learn how to interact with the opposite sex. Same sex might be ok for elementary school, but after that they need to be able to learn from & with others...all races, sexes, etc.

I think it wouldn't be too bad of an idea for younger, elementary age kids- but I really don't see how that would really make a difference. As long as schools are teaching the basics- three R's, I really don't see why we need to have new schools for same sex classes. I went to mixed schools and had just about as good of an education as kids I knew who went to private all boys or all girls schools. Seems like just another band aid type fix on education. They need to just let things be, and get back to basics- stop wasting money on buerocratics and red tape, stop spending on stupid things that have no place in schools, treat schools like private corporations that are competative and depend on their own merrits- whether they pass or fail, so be it. The only way for kids to get a good education in the public schools is to cut out the pork, and get into the 'businss' of educating- that is, teaching kids how to read, write and do math- not spend time on all the extras, then cram them for more tests, and have them know the basics before they graduate!
