Darfur: America tries Desperately To Help Save People

The Week

September 29,2006

This week a number of protestors were on the streets of New York, London and other cities asking for U.N. intervention in this country , which is located in the region of Sudan in Africa. The U.N. Security Cuncil said that it would send in 22,500 troops, but only if the Sudan government would approve of it. The Sudanese governent opposes any U.N. action.

Darfur is kept going now by a policing of 7,000 soldiers from the African union, who are about to disband. It is said that if the U. N. or someone lese does not go in, a massive slaughter will take place like the worst days of Sudan's war; which took more than 200,00 lives since 2003.President Bush , Senator McCain and Bob Dole are trying tog et the Sudanese government to allow the U.N. forces in before teh slaughter can begin.

I hope and pray that this matter will come to an agreeable end.

What are your thoughts? Please let us know.

TY

The situation in Darfur is very difficult but I think all of us in the West need to do as much as we can for these poor people. I was glad to see George Clooney speak out recently.

The Sudanese govt is not interested in helping its own people. This is one of the great tragedies of this year, snowed under by petty political bickering

Natalie- we really think alike- I'm writing about this also.  This genocide has gone on long enough.  If the UN is too impotent do do something (Rewanda) then they have no business being a world power.  It's up to every democratic government to intercede on behalf of those who have no voice.  Thanks for bringing this up!  Carolyn

Instead of going in to Iraq maybe this would have been a more humane effort to undertake with our military people. Regards, Bill.
