Colorado Shooting:Stiffer Penalties for Killings of Students?

Some days ago this September a delusional, angry man took some students hostage in a school in the country.

He excused some students . He had two high school girls left. He had told one girl to tell the police to expect a surprize in one hour. The police were nervous because they had found out that the man had abused one or both girls. They decided to storm the building in attempt to save the girls lives becasue they felt that the man was suicidal. the man turned his gun and shot one girl , then shot himself. The police had saved one girl's life.

The man's suicide was terrible. I feel sorry for him and his family.

My question refers to what punsihment you think is acceptable for someone who has threatened and molested one child and killed another.

Hopefully they have to suffer a long time.

The reason I bring this up is that more schools have suffered these attacks.

Also, do you think that more schools should have guards and metal detectors?

Please leave your opinion.

I wrote about this in my journal the other day...but basically I don't see how people don't see people like this in their community.  I mean people usually don't just wake up one day and say, "I want to kill myself and others."  I just think most of the people that do these sorts of things need serious psychiatric help.  I heard he actually sexually assaulted 6 different girls when I read a report a few days ago...I think it is sad times in which we live.

There is no money for guards or metal detectors..heck their isnt even enough money to keep teachers, an arts program and sports programs,,,it would be nice to have that, but unless its in a high crime rate urban area, I cant imagine the tax payers agreeing,,

I believe in the death penalty. Not because it is a fair consequence...one death doesnt satisfy another but as a deterrent for society as a whole....

Love your blog by the way

Castrate the mother f'ers and put them in solitary, for LIFE!  The death penalty is too easy.

I guess I'm not up to speed, because I thought schools already had metal detectors and a police presence already since Columbine and Mississippi.  As for what should these 'people' get for shooting and terrorizing schools?  Well, the ones who don't act like cowards and kill themselves already should get life in prison.  That is- be in solitary until the day they are dead.  Too many of these things have gone on already.  Life.  With o possibility of ever seeing the outside again.  Carolyn

I agree with Marla, schools should be far more security concsious, anyone can just walk in. The people who commit these crimes should be given no sympathy and be locked up for life. Parents need to know the law is protecting their kids. Jeannette xx

I am sad to say that I think there should be a requirement that each scholl have police Officer on campus at all times when students are there. The "old days" when children felt safe and were safe are over. A serious increase in security in needed. Regards, Bill

I actually believe that their should be metal detectors in all schools now...ALL!  In this day and time...no one is safe from the horrible crimes of today...how sad this is....and the ones commiting the crimes are sometimes repeat offenders...that's even worse.  This is sad time for all...
