I miss our Fourth of July celebrations when I was a teenager, and we watched as they shot fireworks off the pier.  We would hang at the beach all day, go home and shower and change, and then head back to join in the celebrations.  Most of us were so burnt that we could compete with the fireworks, as far as glowing red !  Those were great days .... When I was young, this was one of my favorite holidays.  I always looked forward to the picnics, backyard games, company coming over and fireworks at the end of the day when it was dark.  If you had asked me then, I would have said that July 4th meant food, fun and fireworks.
Now that I am quite a bit older, I think of the 4th of July as the birth of our country and the FREEDOM we all enjoy because of the service men and women that have fought in every war so that we might have this freedom.  It is a day to be thankful for my country, the United States of America.  It is a day I count my blessings to be an American.  Not that I am not thankful for the fun times when I was young - that is the way it should be when you are a child.  But, I am just thankful for other things as I approach the winter of my life.  Now it is time to be grateful - and I most certainly am!!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA.
