In 2004 Totmianina and Marinin were skating in a World Figure Skating Competition when a freak accident occured; Marinin lost traction on the ice and Totmianin fell as she was hanging from his right hand. Totmianina got a severe concussion from the fall as well as eye and neck injuries. Marinin felt depressed as he blamed himself for the accident.
The two of them perservered. Totmianina recovered fully and the couple was entered into the Olympics competition in Turino.Amazingly, their spunk and positive attitude won them great confidence and poise and points from the judges. They delivered a flawless performance using the music from the film"Romeo and Juliet". They scored a whopping 14.75 pointsmore than China's Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao in figure skating! It was so moving to see them receive their dream; the hard earned gold medal!Bravo!
