Scientists Create Green Human Embryo:Comment

The Week
May 30,2008

Scientists created a "green human embryo" and unfortunately, the reporter says that this embryo is the first step in creating "designer babies"; that is, babies who are prettier, smarter, taller and other wise more perfect than "normal" babies.
What do you think about this? Is it ethical? Is it morally okay?
Can society justify this sort of activity? Are we all of the sudden our own creator? And what is the consequence do you think of such activities?
Please comment!

To me it would be more wise to use such technology to keep babies being born without disease and the like, but to me the other is just a waste of good science, plus I think overly unwise and just moraly pompous.

This scares me. I don't like the idea of men playing God with human lives or any other lives for that matter :(

I think if humanity pursues this approach they'll end up being a compassionless, snobbish bunch trading in children for the latest, best model. What super brilliant children will grow up to do the menial tasks?  I think all the things that make us our "better" selves involve adjusting to our limitations, accepting our gifts and talents and over coming.  And why on earth would anyone want to make a green human?!?  -  Barbara
