Katrina Visions, Part I

Katrina Visions

CBS

August 26,2006

CBS has been airing Katrina stories in honor of the anniversary of Katrina; stories of despair mixed with hope.

I wanted to write about two of their reports .

The first story is about Mr. Hardy Jackson , who could not hold onto his wife and stay afloat during the flood. She bravely said:"Let me go. Promise me that you will go back and take care of the children and the grandchildren." He finally agreed. "I will." And sadly, he let his wife go. He and the entire family was relocated to Atlanta, Georgia; where a generous donor gave them a house. He is grateful that he has the children and grandchildren together; however,he still grieves over his wonderful wife.

What extraorodinary courage and devotion!Have yuo ever known anyone who would give this much to help her family?

oh what a touching story! I hadn't heard of this before. I'm so sorry for Mr. Jackson. I have to admire Mrs. Jackson though for having such courage to do what she did.

I'm so clueless, you know. I read this, just i guess i didn't get around to commenting!

I'd like to think that i'd do something as brave as her. And what an awful situation for her husband to be in. He doesn't want to loose the woman he loves, but doesn't want their children to be left with no parents!

You know, people shouldn't have been put in that kind of situation in the first place. I know that Katrina was nature doing what it does, but people should have left. and help should have gone in sooner to get people out.

Reading this entry makes and made me think of Titanic, the scene where she lets go of Jacks hand and he sinks to the bottom!

That was heart breaking, but what an amazing thing to give one's life for another.  There was a story here a few months ago- I live in SW Florida (Yes- I know hurricanes well by now)  Where a family  (Mom, Dad, son, daughter) was out boating along our coast, when a bad storm came up and their boat tipped over.  They were out for quite a while, and the father drowned.  The boy gave his Mom his life jacket so she could survive to take care of his sister.  He drowned too.  It was so sad, I couldn't get over it.  Jesus said, no greater love hath a man who gives his life for another.  How true.  God bless- Carolyn
