Teens Love Fake Python Snakes

Animal Planet

My teen and I watched animal planet a few weeks ago. there was a very interesting program about fake pythons. It explained: fake pythons are snakes that are not poisonous; but, in order to protect themselves, Mother Nature gave them the coloring and the posturing of "real" pythons! Yeah! So when other predators come around in Malasia, these snakes pretend to be the deadly snakes and their enemies leave.

I thought it was so funny that I pretended to be one too (in a silly fashion).

Now my kid loves it!

"Mom be the fake python again! Come on!"

lol! Hes' so funny!

So .. do you like snakes?

Do you think of them as intelligent or just bad?

What about your family; do they like them?

I lived with a PYTHON! A real one...do I get extra points? Ha! Thing freaked me out. I nearly stepped on it twice getting into the shower. It was sleeping in the tub floating on the water. Then it got out once despite 25lb dumb bells on his cage top. Was slithering up the corner of the wall...ugh!

I'm not a snake person which is a shame because it keeps me from hiking which is something my husband likes to do but I'm afraid of seeing a snake. I can look at them on TV or in a zoo or pet store, but that's about it.

I love snakes myself, but can't have one in fear of what it might do to my other animals if it got out.  Mother nature sure has interesting ways of protecting her creatures that is for sure.

I wouldn't say I love them, except to appreciate their beauty as a species of animal... I wouldn't want to hug one, nor even get any closer than to look upon them in admiration. I would say, I am a friend of snakes. I wouldn't kill a snake if I found one in my home. If he was too big for me to catch and remove myself, I would call someone else to do it for me. If it was a poisonous snake, I would tell my husband, and he'd probably kill it. I like to take pictures of them, and identify them. I wrote an entry about two snakes that were displaced by our pond removal back in May. Here it is: http://journals.aol.com/bgilmore725/Wanderer/entries/2006/05/20/two-snakes-displaced-by-pond-removal/1131

So, you played fake snake with the kids.... you're such a kid, Nat! I hope you captured it on video for the family archives! Bea

Ok, my first live encouter with a snake was a garter snake. this tiny but violent thing adam found in his yard. he chased me around with it until i finally agreed to touch it. i dont really like them and would ideally stay well away from them, but adam likes them. he's my mr animal planet cause he loves that show. i told him about the fake pythons because i thought it was really cool the way they'd adapted through i'm guessing snake evolution to ward of preditors through their colouring and mannerisms. but adam posed the question of what kind of python it was they were coping since most pythons are constrictors? i've no idea. i'm not clued up on snakes but he seems to know what he's talking about so i thought i'd ask.

Hi Natalie! Hope your OK.
My ex boyfriend went through a snake phase about a year ago! I always hated them until then but I dont mind them now! 2 were small but he had a 6ft boa constrictor and a 9ft python - they're not that scary when you get used to them but I still never liked sleeping in the same room as them, I used to be really paranoid that they'd get out of the tank in the night and attack me! I was quite relieved when he sold them to be honest!
