My Dad is Dying/Tell Us about Your Dad

My Dad Is Dying

Tell us some thing Lovely Your Dad Did

The big guy needs to take a big trip... He has been very ill for ten years.

You might say that he has big shoes to fill..He had fun as a young man and he earned money to but his own car! He blew up his father's shed one day trying to make beer!He had a great sense of humor and he played the guitar... he had to suffer through bad times in America and his Dad sold his car to pay for the family. Basically he had to give up his dream of college to become a doctor for the family. He worked very hard his whole life. He adopted my first stepmother's kid and he loves him so much. My first stepmother got the fatal form of cancer. Then she died of cancer, after my dad took care of her.

He remarried my curretn stepmother who is still alive today and he put her kids through college and he still loves them today. My stepmother has cancer(breast cancer). He saw her through all of that and now she is a survivor. She is a wonderful woman and we are all so proud of her. She was first a school teacher. Before she got cancer she had studied and became a social worker. She helped many people.

Both of these wonderful people instilled in us great beliefs. They wanted us to aspire to fulfill our dreams and to help others fulfill theirs.

He has polio before they invented a cure so now the polio has been really eating him away. He got Alzheimers too.

I will miss him.

Your turn.

What wonderful memories of your father.  He could teach many of us a lesson or two that's for sure about what is really important in life.  I never knew my real father, but my stepfather who raised me had some of the very same values as your father.  You know you are in my prayers and your father.
Love,
Lisa

Your dad sounds like a wonderful man. It is one of the hardest things in the world to say good-bye to a parent. But to tell you the truth, my father died over 20 years ago and I feel him around me whenever I need him. He sometimes even comes to me in dreams and they are always positive and help me with a problem I have or had. I truly believe people we love never leave us. It's hard for us because when they go to God, we can't physically touch them and so on but they can see us and we can become better people because they lived and loved us.

You are most certainly in my thoughts, Natalie.  Be well and wonderful, and I will do my best to try and make you smile at least a little.  Your father sounds like a wonderful man.  The world seems lucky to have had him in it.

Your friend,
Dan

Nat, you loved your dad, and you should miss him. It's good to remember the big picture of his life. Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be the same age as your dad, and live the same time, and know him from that perspective? I've wondered that myself, a time or two, about my own dad. He had lots of friends, people he'd go fishing with, or play cards with, or bowl with. They knew a Joe that I didn't know. He could laugh and joke around with them. It puzzled me as a teen that I couldn't do the same with him. I suppose, in retrospect, it was because I was a teen with teen angst, and narrow teen thinking, and couldn't connect with my dad. He tried, in his way, to connect with me, but mostly we had long silences between us when we were together. Peaceful long silences. I found that to be better than getting into arguments about stupid stuff. My dad would have done anything to please me, if I would let him. But I never did because I moved away and got married, and saw him maybe once a year. His last five years were painful, both physically and emotionally, and I came to know things about my dad in those last five years that he'd never spoken of before. Had he told me twenty years earlier, how much closer we might have become. We love our dads because of that special place they hold in our hearts. He was the first man I ever fell in love with, and the first military man I ever fell in love with. My dad was my first soldier, in my eyes and in my heart. I know you will miss him, but that is a good thing, Nat. That's how we keep our loved ones alive. I am sad with you. I hope your trip to be with family is peaceful and loving. Love, Bea

I love you and I hope your memories will ease your sorrow.
I was in the store the other night adn I saw a man & thought,"he reminds me of my dad
I mentally shook myself and said,
"silly, that guy is the same age as you, Marti"
that's when it hit me, I am the age of my dad when he died.
Weird.

My dad is European.
He's the boss of the house.
He coached me and my brothers in soccer.
He loves his wife very much, but is afraid to show it sometimes.
He is a good man, one of the best.
We all love him. very much.

My best description of my Dad is this one:  He had four daughters, and he made us all feel like we were his favorite.  He was  one of those people that everyone liked ... he always had a smile on his face, even when things were tough for him.  He has been gone for 27 years now, but I will always carry my wonderful memories of him with me.  Nat .... I'm so sorry for your loss.  Know that my prayers are with you, and that in time, your sadness will be replaced by your beautiful memories, too.   Take care, and God bless, Tina

Coming by way of Dianna...so sorry to hear about your dad...My dad died in 1994 of a cardiac arrest.  I was his princess...he would have done anything in the world for my kids and I.  What he did...before he died (in Sept.), he bought me a Deamsicle Angel for a Christmas gift.  He came home and wrapped it and tagged it for me right then.  He had no idea he wouldn't going to be around.  My mom gave it to me that Christmas.  I burst into tears.  I now collect Dreamsicles but my very first one is the most precious.  HUGS....remember the good times and good things about your dad...Chris

Came from Dianna's journal.  Although we don't REALLY know each other, we are BOTH part of the J-Land Family and I wanted you to know that you have my empathy.  I am thinking of you and your family at this time.
