What's Cookin'?

It seems I've been graciously invited to guest host an entry here by Nat.  The topic tonight is Christmas Dinner.  Or what will you be having for Christmas Dinner?

If you are over 40 you probably remember the Hee Haw show on TV.  One segment they often did was to stop in and ask Grandpa "What's for supper?"  And he'd rattle off a lip smackin', finger lickin' country menu.

So in that tradition and trying to stay true to this journal's purpose, I'm going to share with you all what we are having in Caneyhead tomorrow night for our Christmas meal.  And I'm inviting you to do the same.

* There will be a big pot of dumplin's cooked down with a big fat hen.

* A pan of cornbread dressing.  (I'm not good at that, but my precious sister made me up a pan that all I have to do is bake!)

* A huge bowl of fruit compote like Pete's mama used to make.

* A pot of crowder peas seasoned with bacon grease.

* Brown n' serve rolls with butter on top.

* Jalapeno's stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon for an appetizer.

* And a good ole' chocolate pie made all from scratch (including the crust) for desert.

Yum, Yum!!!!  ;o

Now, don't forget to share you menu with us!  And thanks, Nat!

THANKS BARBARA FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION.  HUNGER IS PROGRESSING.
I LIKE TO MAKE NOODLES TOO. NEVER HAVE WON ANY PRIZES THOUGH HAVE HAD A FEW COMPLIMENTS.
WHEN PREPARING THE NOODLE DOUGH, SPRINKLE IN GARLIC POWDER, OF COURSE SALT AND PEPPER, ADDING A LITTLE HOT CHILI PEPPER AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT WHETS THE TASTE.
ROLL IT OUT AND WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT HAVE THE BROTH BOILING AND ADD THE NOODLE STRIPS SLOW ENOUGH TO NOT STOP THE BOILING.
TASTE TEST IT OFTEN TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS OK.   sam

Sounds so yummy!!!  I can tell your family must be full of great cooks!!!  This year we are turkeyed out and tired of ham so we're going to try an Italian Christmas.  I'm cooking lasagna, tossed salad, italian garlic toast with mozzarella cheese on top, lime jello with tiny bits of chopped celery and slivers of carrots; chocolate pie over here too and a pumpkin with whipped cream; a relish plate with butter pickles, pickled beets and Spanish olives and black olives.  Crackers with a variety of cheeses.  Still deciding on a veggie to go with the lasagna....  Many hugs and wishing you a very Merry Christmas!!

I remember Hee Haw. I even had me a little pair of those overalls as a toddler with the donkey on it and it said Hee Haw all over them...lol. Your menu sounds wonderful. Here is what we had.

Two hams
Cajun Fried Turkey
potato salad
steamed broccoli and real cheese sauce made from scratch
Sweet Potato casserole
lima beans with chunks of ham to season
home made rolls
cream corn from scratch off the cob
Key Lime Pie
Strawberry Shortcake
Pecan Pie

We just finished the leftovers last night, even after everyone took some home with them...whew that was a lot of food!

HI Barbara- Hi Nat!  Sounds yummy!  We had brown sugar ham (the kind with the crunchy sweet crust), corn on the cob, squash cassarole (I hate squash- but my mother in law makes it so yummy I always have seconds!), hot rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and pintos- coconut cream or home made from scratch cherry/cranberry pie!  It was yummy too!  God Bless you both, and hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas!!!  Love Carolyn
